“In 2011 the Department of Information Technology, Mathematics and Physics was established within The Faculty of Letters and Sciences.  The new department was the outcome of the merger of the Mathematics, The Computer Science and The Physics sub-departments, upon the suggestion of the Dean of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Cristian Marinoiu, as part of a national restructuring process of faculty departments. While the Mathematics and the Physics Sub-departments had been set up as early as the foundation of the institution, The Computer Science Sub-department was founded in 1990 thanks to the efforts of Prof. PhD. Eng. Liviu Dumitraşcu, at the time the leader of the Computer Science staff, pertaining to the Physics, Electrotechnics, Automation and Informatics Sub-department. On that occasion, the Computer Science Sub-department gained access to the facilities of the former Computing Centre of the Institute of Petroleum and Gas in Ploiești. A significant contribution was the support of Prof. PhD. Eng. Stelian Dumitrescu, Head of the Physics, Electrotechnics, Automation and Informatics Sub-department and former University Rector.

In 2014, upon a proposal of the Head of Department, Assoc. Prof. PhD. Gabriela Moise, the term Computer Science was added to the name of the department, the new name being The Department of Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics and Physics. This change would allow the department’s title to reflect the focus on its responsibility in coordinating the study programmes Computer Science (Bachelor’s) and Advanced Technologies for Information Processing (Master’s), as well as the relevance of the faculty members’ teaching and research in the field of informatics. The members of The Department of Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics and Physics are in charge of teaching in the fields of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science in all five faculties within the University”.

Currently, the Department coordinates two study programmes:

• A Bachelor’s degree programme, Computer Science, founded in 1992, latest re-accreditation on 30^th May 2017;
• A Master’s degree programme, Advanced Technologies for Information Processing, established in 2004, latest re-accreditation on 21^st March 2019.

The Departament has the honour to have collaborated with eminent scientists: Prof. PhD. Physicist Basarab Nicolescu, Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiești Doctor Honoris Causa, Scientific Researcher I Mathematician PhD. Nicolae Popa, Scientific Researcher I Computer Scientist PhD. Răzvan Diaconescu, Prof. PhD. Habil. Ariana Pitea.

The lines of research pursued by the members of the department encompass informatics, mathematics and physics and the results of their research are published in scientific papers and books or are presented at scientific conferences in Romania or abroad. Within the department are established the CerTIMF Research Centre (https://erris.gov.ro/CerTIMF) as well as research laboratories in which research, development and innovation projects are launched with the support of the academic staff and  their collaborators, of undergraduate and master students. The department collaborates with universities and research institutions and periodically hosts conferences, workshops and other national and international events, such as The Computer Science & Education Symposium, The International Conference on Differential Geometry and Applications, 3ITC Students’ Contest.

The Department of Philology was founded in 2011 by merging the two departments that had been functioning since 1992, namely the Department of Philology and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. This fusion was the natural outcome of a continuous and solid collaboration between the members of the two departments, exceptional teachers whose teaching and research activity has permanently aimed at training new generations of specialists through Bachelor’s and Master’s study programmes.

            In addition to the coordinated programmes, namely: two Bachelor programmes (Romanian Language and Literature – English Language and Literature and English Language and Literature – French Language and Literature) and two Master programmes (Romanian Cultural Studies in the European Context and Concepts and Strategies of Intercultural Communication), the department has a complex specificity and its members undertake their teaching activities within all university faculties, both for full-time and distance learning. Moreover, some of the members of the department hold Romanian Language and Literature lectures and seminars for the Preparatory Year, an educational structure that addresses the foreign students who wish to continue their university studies in our country.

The mission of the department is consistent with the demands of the globalization era, in which communication and cultural and linguistic diversity have become essential coordinates. The members of the department are constantly involved in persuading students to take part in teaching, research and extra-curricular activities aimed at facilitating their understanding of the complex phenomena of the contemporary world as well as their access to the labour market, enhancing their competitiveness in the target fields.

A major objective of the members of the department is to increase the visibility of their scientific and creative performances at both national and international levels by publishing research papers in journals and specialised books, as well as by attending prestigious national and international scientific events. Since 2008 the department has been organising biennial international scientific conferences, in collaboration with prestigious national and foreign universities, thus helping to promote the image of the university in the national and international academic environment.

The research areas of the department (identity and intercultural communication, ethnology and folklore, literature and critical theory, linguistics, teaching, etc.) have attracted the interest of students and have facilitated the organisation of student conferences with particular impact on the academic environment.

            The members of the department have always been involved in numerous Erasmus mobility programmes, international scholarships and Romanian language readerships, activities through which they have been substantially contributing to promoting the image of Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiești both nationally and internationally.

The Department of EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES was established by the University Senate decision no. 1720/ 11.07.2011 which stipulated the modification of the organizational structure of Petroleum-Gas University. The department was set up by dissolving the Office of EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES, an office that would coordinate, at that time, two Bachelor’s degree programmes - PEDAGOGY and PEDAGOGY FOR PRIMARY AND PRESCHOOL EDUCATION – and three Master’s degree programmes - EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND EUROPEAN INTEGRATION, SCHOOL COUNSELLING AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT and MASTERPROF – COMPETENT TEACHERS FOR THE KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY (DIDACTICS AND SUBJECT DIDACTICS), organized and designed in the fundamental field of EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES, within the Faculty of Letters and Sciences.

Starting with the academic year 2014-2015 and based on the University Senate decision no 245 / 06.03.2014 regarding the reorganization of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, the Department of Educational Sciences was joined by the team of Legal and Administrative Sciences.Currently, the department coordinates four Bachelor’s degree study programmes:

• PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION;
• MANAGERIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANCE;
• PEDAGOGY;
• PEDAGOGY FOR PRIMARY AND PRESCHOOL EDUCATION;

and three Master’s degree programmes:

• PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND EUROPEAN INTEGRATION;
• SCHOOL COUNSELLING AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT;
• EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND EUROPEAN INTEGRATION.

In addition, the Department of Educational Sciences coordinates the development of three continuous training programmes accredited by CNFPIP (The National Centre for Training Teaching Staff):

• Challenges and constraints of non-formal education;
• Facilitating students' learning: fundamental skills, teaching strategies;
• Development of teachers’ research skills in order to qualify for the teaching degree I.

The research directions of the members of the department are within the fields of Educational Sciences, Psychology and Behavioural Sciences, Legal Sciences, and the research results are published in scientific articles, books or presented at prestigious scientific events both in the country and abroad.

Within the department, research, development, and innovation projects are carried out with the contribution of teachers as well as of undergraduate and master students.

The EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES Department collaborates with other universities and research institutes and regularly organizes conferences, workshops and other national and international scientific events. (e.g. “Education and Psychology Challenges - Teachers for the Knowledge Society”).
